Perspectives of Time...from WB

On the way home from Thanksgiving last night:

"Mom, all the best things in life happen when you are 16, 17, or 18."

"Really? Who told you that?"

"They just do..."

"OK, what are the best things in life"

"You know...getting a car....getting married...getting a house."

"Really? What age does this stuff happen?"

"Well, you get a car at 16. You get married and get a house at 17 or 18 so that you can have a baby."

****Clearly, I've spent a lot of time worrying about nothing. Worrying that, as an older parent, I might miss events in the lives of my children when they are adults. It seems now I might be better served to simply daydream about how I'll spend his college fund since he apparently won't need it to complete his "fast-track" life.(Oh, and Dianna, you might want to reconsider that idea of getting our kids together as prom dates..;o)***

And then, in the same car ride...not 5 minutes later...he continues to enlighten us with his life plan. I ask why everything seems to be happening rather quickly, he explains:

"You know, because your childhood "officially" ends at 35."

***So, at 44, does that make me a 9-year old adult? Suddenly, I'm feeling young for the first time in a very long time.***

*****************

I hope your day was as wonderful as ours: great food, great wine, and even greater friends. We are blessed indeed!

I'm thankful for my kids who brighten my life beyond measure. I'm thankful for a supportive partner and the adventurous 22-year journey we've shared. And, I'm thankful for friends that are "far better than I deserve."

I hope that, like us, you had a great meal and were surrounded by those that you love. What a great day!

And to our most faithful reader...we hope the doctor got some medicine in you and that your back is feeling better! We love you Papa Bob! Get well soon! (Miss Val...the man obviously needs some Potato Bacon Chowder!)

That is one scary conversation. lol I cringe at the thought of my kids growing up!

Leigh, you by far have the most awesome son. If you need go out of town and want me to watch him, I'd be happy to. Do you ever have a dull moment?

Leigh said...

No, never a dull moment. However, MANY times (especially during evening conversations with his teacher), I wish there were.

One of mine wants to live in a house with no wife so he can do whatever he wants & the other wants to marry a rich wife so she can buy the house! Boys are so funny!

Oh, the minds of 8 year olds!

How funny. I love to hear kids' conversations like that. Life really is simple in their minds isn't it? So glad you had a great Thanksgiving.
